VOCAL SUCCESS STUDIOS

Singing Lessons at Vocal Success Studios

Singing is often difficult for people to learn as they try to overcome their fear of public scrutiny. Many Singers find that performing builds self confidence and self esteem. Singing well and in a healthy way will be explained to students, as it is important to look after your voice.

The purpose of singing lessons is to for the student to be able to sing the material they wish in the way they want. The creativity of the student should be encouraged to deliver the song their way. Sharon’s singing lessons enable the student to do more with the voice that they have. Please have a look at the My Students link and have a look at the journey they have taken to be a better singer.

Typical New Student Issues

  • I can’t sing past a particular note, or my voice cracks, flips, or makes a straining sound.
  • I have been taking singing lessons and still can’t get past my first or second bridge.
  • If I sing at a gig the next day my throat gets dry, sore or feels hoarse.
  • I have been using Singing Success Online and need help understanding it.
  • I have to move my music up, or down a key for me to sing it.
  • I can only sing so high in my normal voice, then I go all light and have a “weaker” sound
  • I love to sing, but I can’t control my voice, and I find it hard to pitch a note.
  • When I sing I can’t seem to get my vibrato under control.
  • I can sing all the high notes really easy, but when I come back down, I sound really breathy.
  • I can sing fine, but there are a few songs that I just can’t do it like the original artist.
  • I am working with exercises that are meant to “gently” extend my range, but I have muscles clenched up in my neck

Sharon - International Voice Training

Sharon has been providing singing lessons to help students with their voices for over 20 years. Starting with traditional grades , Sharon wanted to find a technique that allowed her to sing in the same voice from low to high without “flipping” or “pushing up” notes.

In 1997 she began experimenting wth  the techniques of Seth Riggs, Author of “Singing for the Stars”and the Speech Level Singing technique. (SLS) . Eventually she travelled to the United States to study under Seth, taking private lessons in his LA studio and over the internet.
Seth, who trained Micheal Jackson, Barbara, Ray Charles, Michael Jackson, Prince, Cher, Olivia and 135 grammy award winning singers, urged Sharon to move to LA, instead she worked with the SLS organisation to become the Australian organiser representing the new SLS coaching members in Australia.  Sharon worked for 9 years graduating through the SLS levels becoming the highest accredited SLS teacher in Australia.   The SLS organisation since ceased to exist and many teachers sought to continue developing new techniques.

Sharon explored vocal improvements with Jeffrey Skouson, and Dean Kaelin who became the independent musical tutor bodies – Institute for Vocal Advancement (IVA)  and  International Voice Teachers of Mix (IVTOM) then started to work with Brett Manning, founder of Singing Success.

In 2011 Sharon went to Nashville to study under Brett to become the first accredited Brett Manning Associate (BMA) teacher in Australia.

Sharon’s extensive training with the worlds top Vocal Coaches gives her unique insights into the different techniques and methodologies that solve singers problems. Her ability to analyse a voice and look at different ways to assist the student makes her invaluable to any singing student.

Finding the right coach ?

After surveying the top traits of effective teachers, a number of key traits or qualities kept coming up over and over. These qualities transcend culture, skill level, and even subject matter or discipline. When you think of those teachers and coaches that have had the greatest impact on you, many of these same qualities and skills will likely come to mind.

Whether it was high school or kindergarten, youth soccer or college intramural basketball, piano or band, art or algebra, the teachers that have the greatest impact inspire and encourage both self-discipline and a desire to get better, wiser or stronger. The best teachers always find a way to motivate a student, no matter how demanding or seemingly impossible the situation, or how inexperienced or poorly trained the student may be.
